The Progressive Safe System (PSS) is the new safety requirement for compliance with the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) in the Greater London DVS Zone. It replaces the current Safe System, and applications to Transport for London (TfL) must be submitted by 28th October, along with proof of a PSS installation booking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s Progressive<\/mark><\/strong> <\/mark>Safe System?<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The PSS utilizes advanced technology to predict potential collisions by analyzing the trajectories of both the vehicle and vulnerable road users (VRUs). This predictive capability is essential for determining if a collision is likely. Additionally, the system incorporates an alarm strategy that alerts the driver based on the severity of the risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Are Requested In Progressive Safe Systeym?<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1: Camera Monitoring System (CMS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Camera Monitoring System (CMS) must be installed on the nearside of the vehicle to eliminate the remaining blind spot on that side. This system can also serve as an alternative to fitting Class V and VI mirrors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your vehicle is already equipped with a CMS or is type-approved under UNECE Regulations 151 and 159, you may not need an additional system. In these cases, the existing CMS may provide the same safety benefits. Our installer guidance emphasizes positioning cameras effectively without creating external projections that could endanger other road users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2: Mirrors or CMS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Class V and VI mirrors, or a CMS as a replacement, must be installed on the front and nearside of the vehicle. These mirrors or equivalent systems are essential for giving the driver a clear view of the vehicle\u2019s blind spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3: Blind Spot Information System (BSIS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) must cover the entire nearside of the vehicle, ensuring it can detect vulnerable road users without generating false alarms from stationary vehicles or roadside objects. This system is crucial in preventing left-turn collisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4: Moving Off Information System (MOIS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Moving Off Information System (MOIS) must be fitted at the front of the vehicle to alert the driver when vulnerable road users are in the front blind spot. This system helps prevent accidents when the vehicle starts moving from a standstill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5: Side Under-run Protection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Side under-run protection must be installed on both sides of the vehicle to prevent vulnerable road users from being dragged under the vehicle in case of a collision. Exceptions are made only when installing such protection is impractical for certain vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6: Audible Warnings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vehicles must be fitted with audible warning systems that alert road users when the vehicle is turning left. For left-hand drive vehicles, this warning should activate when turning right, ensuring nearby road users are aware of the vehicle\u2019s movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7: External Warning Signage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear, visible warning signage must be displayed to alert pedestrians and cyclists about the vehicle\u2019s blind spots and potential hazards. While larger signs (A3 size) are preferred, smaller signage may be used if it remains clear and legible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
